Laura Berssenbrugge, Psy.D., specializes in the evidence-based treatment of anxiety and mood disorders. She has extensive experience providing cognitive behavioral treatments (CBT) and dialectical behavior therapy (DBT) to children, adolescents, and adults struggling with social phobia, generalized anxiety disorder, specific phobias, selective mutism, depressive disorders, OCD, ADHD, disruptive disorders, trauma-related disorders, autism spectrum disorder, and communication and behavioral issues.

Dr. Berssenbrugge received her doctorate in School-Clinical Psychology from Ferkauf Graduate School of Psychology at Yeshiva University, where she was a member of the Ferkauf Anxiety Research Laboratory. She completed an APA-accredited clinical internship at Rutgers Biomedical & Health Sciences in Newark, NJ. At Rutgers, she adapted the DBT curriculum for children and adults in the partial hospitalization programs, leading the inaugural groups on both units.

Dr. Berssenbrugge has held externship positions in the Anxiety and Mood Disorder Centers at Child Mind Institute, Social Learning Program at NYU Langone Child Study Center, Mount Sinai St. Luke’s Hospital, and Brooklyn Friends School. Using her knowledge of psychological assessment, she reviewed accommodation requests at The College Board for the SAT, PSAT, and AP tests. Prior to her doctoral training, Dr. Berssenbrugge worked as an Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) therapist with children with autism and as an English as a Second Language (ESL) teacher in Japan.

Dr. Berssenbrugge has trained mental health professionals and educators in evidence-based treatments in outpatient, partial hospitalization, school, and community mental health settings. In addition to her work as a psychologist, she is a registered yoga teacher.

Dr. Berssenbrugge is an active member in the Association for Behavioral and Cognitive Therapies.
